Khod-Rahagaran

For a society in which
Life and Dignity of each
person
are institutionally protected.
March 2010
Introduction:
Iranian society has for over a hundred years and through several great social movements, been struggling in its pursuit of freedom and democracy. At the time of the writing of this document, this struggle has reached a critical point.
Iranian society is in need of a transformation. The current movement, which started on 12 June 2009[1], has the ability to begin this transformation. The depth and direction (quantity and quality) of this uprising depends on the wisdom and struggle of every individual Iranian. Each of us can be a theoretical, material or operational supporter of this endeavor. It is certain that collective and coordinated work to this end is more constructive than individual and scattered acts.
We, a group of Iranians have, through creating an organization taken it upon ourselves to play a practical role in this process. This demonstrates our belief in the will of the people to individually and collectively shape their own histories. The name of this organization is Khod-Rahagaran[2].
Ours is a cultural-political
organization. It is active in both acculturation and the promotion of social
enlightenment, i.e. a grassroots work, as well as in political
intervention in the arena of power, from above, for the purpose of playing a
role in determining our own destiny.
We will, with the establishment of a committed, moral and rational group, prepare the groundwork for this endeavor.
What is
the philosophical basis of Khod-Rahagaran?
Humanism is the underlying principle of our philosophy. We believe in empathy, intelligence, strength, talent, ability, creativity and in one word, the unlimited material and spiritual ability of humanity in the field of development. The creativity, ingenuity and the flourishing of man know no boundaries. Thus, Khod-Rahagaran believes that each human being should, shape his or her individual and collective destiny through consciousness and determination so that these personal and social efforts can give birth to a society in which the self-realization of human beings becomes possible.
The general trajectory of our movement from the existing conditions to that ideal society is as follows:
What is the ideal society for Khod-Rahagaran ?
Such a society benefits from one important indicator which, as a clearly specific objective, is deemed worthy of pursuit for Khod-Rahagaran: an institutionalized protection of the life and dignity of each person. This means the institutionalized provision of protection for the life of each citizen as well as his or her physical and psychological integrity. This institutionalized security can be assured by two ways: Development of social enlightenment and the rule of law.
The realisation of such an ideal is
not possible unless three phenomena, which are mutually related, are present
and guaranteed by a humanistic society:
·
Freedom
·
Social Justice
·
Democracy
These three values are interconnected
and one cannot be preferred over any of the others. We believe that the
relation between these three elements is multidirectional. None prevails over
the other rather the existence of each of them relies on the presence of the
other two elements:
·
Freedom makes possible the institutionalized
defence of social justice
·
Social justice makes possible the
institutionalized defence of freedom
·
Democracy makes possible the institutionalized
defence of freedom and social justice.
The organisation of Khod-Rahagaran
has been established and struggles for the realization of these three
objectives in Iranian society.
What
does freedom mean?
We consider freedom to be an absolute concept whose applications consist of:
· Freedom of thought
· Freedom of election
· Freedom of the press
· Freedom of expression
· Freedom of organization
· Freedom of religion and beliefs
· Individual and social freedoms
With this consideration that freedom brings both rights and responsibilities, we believe in the minimum amount of legislative limitations on these freedoms.
What
does democracy mean?
What we mean by Democracy is the direct intervention of citizens in the shaping of their own destinies from the lowest social affairs to the highest levels of the countrys management. Institutionalization of the involvement of citizens in the administration of the civil, professional and political affairs is a good example of Democracy. Self-management stands for the active and institutionalized participation of the people in various areas of management and decision making.
Range of
Khod-Rahagarans
activities:
Our inspirations are universal and we wish for the material and spiritual prosperity of all nations of the world and every single human on earth. Therefore, on our path, we will never pursue organizational self- interests by siding with any government or organization that consciously and deliberately tramples upon these principles. Our worldview is humanistic and universal but our struggle and activities are focused on Iran.
Lets think globally and act nationally
What
does Khod-Rahagaran want to do?
Based on the above, our tasks and responsibilities are divided into two parts:
· in the cultural arena, Khod-Rahagaran will actively promote humanistic thinking.
· in the political arena Khod-Rahagaran will endeavor to establish a society in which the human life and dignity are institutionally protected.

[2]
It is really hard to translate this combined word in English since the
conception of this term is inspired of the literary structure of Iranian language.
But to give an idea about this term we can say that Khod
means Self and
Rahagaran is Liberators, Releasers. Then
the idea, and not the equivalency of Khod-Rahagaran, is something like Self-Liberators or Self-Releasers. With this
explanation we used the original word in this text.
